Pre-School

We provide nursery education for the two academic years before a child starts Lower School.

We hold 2 three hour sessions a day. The morning session runs from 8.45am – 11.45am and the afternoon session 12.15pm - 3.15pm.  We also offer a lunch club from 11.45am whereby they bring their own packed lunch.

Children who are in their final year with us (the year before starting Lower school) are in the ‘Acorns’ year group and are eligible to apply to attend afternoon sessions, all day sessions including lunch club and any WAC sessions. Children in our younger year group (Catkins) are eligible to apply to attend morning HVPS sessions only and all day including lunch club & afternoon sessions once they turn 3 (spaces permitting).

The morning sessions are a mixture of the two age groups and activities are differentiated accordingly to suit the age and stage of every child. The afternoon sessions are focused on school readiness for our older children. Although within free play, we may tailor the resources to the level of the children, ensuring that they are able to access activities that support their development in the Early Years Foundation Stage. This may include opportunities to play learning games as a small group with a member of staff.  There will be a greater emphasis on independence, particularly at snack time.  The children will have the opportunity to work in small groups on a wide range of activities, e.g. cutting, sticking, counting, drawing, writing, phonics etc.

We accept children who receive:

·        2 year old funding;

·        15 Hours (3-4 year old funding);

·        30 hours (3-4 year old funding);

Children can also have paid for sessions if they are not yet in receipt of funding or require hours beyond their funded hours. From September 2024 our fees for unfunded sessions are £7.50 per hour for 2 year olds and £5.50 per hour for 3 & 4 year olds.

We have weekly topics and the activities are planned on a daily basis to meet the requirements of the 7 areas of learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage. The activities are tailored to meet the needs and interests of the children and may include: malleable play such as sand/shaving foam; water play; outdoor mud kitchen; planting and harvesting; counting and measuring; sound of the week and mark making; imaginative role play and dressing up; construction etc. (the list is endless!).

We welcome visits and will be happy to show you around our setting, please e-mail staff@harlingtonvillagepreschool.org.uk to arrange a convenient time.
